Max was a friend of my sister's from high school. He was diagnosed with leukemia when he was about five. He later went into remission for some time.

When Max was a teenager, his leukemia returned. This time, instead of being the same type, he aquired the other. To have both ALL and AML in one person is extremely rare. It went into remission, but just six weeks before his death, it returned. Max fought it for quite a while, but when the cancer returned that third time, he finally decided he'd had enough fighting. For his Make-A-Wish, he had his prized car redone and upgraded!

His biggest wish was to graduate high school. In May of 1999, he achieved his goal. About a week after graduating, he passed away. He was buried wearing his cap and gown.

I only met Max a few times, but he was very close to my sister. I do know that he was a wonderful friend, and everyone loved him. He touched the hearts of so many people.

In remembrance of Max and my cousin Ethan, I run in Relay for Life and make them luminarias every year. I like to think it keeps them close to my heart.

X Watching Over X

Where are you

Where can you be?

Now you have gone

It feels like you have left me!

Dont be silly

That could never happen!

For You are watching over

From sky's Up Above

Sending down all your love

In everything that makes me laugh

In every gentle wind that smooths my face

Yes you watch over Angel

Until we meet again

x In our own happy embrace x
